"Going Home" #POERTY #LOVE #DEVOTION #RESPECT w/Shelby Lynne "I Only Want To Be With You" #Musicvideo #DianaMarySharpton

“Unconditional love really exists in each of us. It is part of our deep inner being. It is not so much an active emotion as a state of being. It's not 'I love you' for this or that reason, not 'I love you if you love me.' It's love for no reason, love without an object.”  ~ Ram Dass

I originally published this poem back in the early fall of 2013. It was written in dedication of the love my father had for my mother, something I could never understand until now. The details have been intentionally exaggerated fiction in an effort to make my point; however the truth was in his unyielding selfless devotions to her that I speak to in this piece. As a result of living with this relationship, I believe that "Unconditional Love" deserves respect and should be cherish by both parties. It is a gift that few people will ever have the privilege of encountering.

My final thought: No one could understand my father and mothers relationship. He stood strong for her and that I can say. When he died my mother realized in a painful way what she had lost. Don't wait until someone is gone to show appreciation and love to that special person in you life. They probably have been waiting for this attention a long time.

Going Home
A rainy mist hovers over ground about a dozen feet or so
Droplets pronounce sound on leaves... then fall below
Wet earth pungency with a slight hint of wild rose
Overwhelms sensations and tickling his nose

Riding a mule, narrow hooves step gingerly over constricted terrain
As fog thickens, eerie quiet echoes a distant shrill, a startled owl fly’s away
He pulls out a filtered Raleigh deliberately and lights it,
taking in a deep draw, shrugs his shoulders to a particular reality, regardless of it’s fit.

Mesmerize in his reflection, cherishing this solitude, right or wrong,
it is simplicity’s freedom or just mere token to his slow song.
The mule followed the track as countless times before,
in a downward trod together, they rode as rain began to pour.

An abrupt decline to a steamy basin,
that’s riddled with snakes and violence of all means.
He was not impressed or dissuaded by trepidation,
instead he maintained a stern focus sharp and keen.

No sirens sing, worship of life or even death, fazed him in the tiniest way,
it’s just a morning expedition wet with rain; at the corner of the break of day.
He’s going home after all to a beauty with eyes’ of deep blue sometimes gray.
She’s 5’5’’ to his 6’2’; she’s his soul and maybe more. Who can really say!

No one expects him this early, you see,
she’ll be surprised and perhaps pleased.
His heart pounds with anticipation to her caress,
and those eyes his soul’s driven to possess.

A stranger’s car’s parked in front where he took pause,
walked the mule towards the stables, perplexed yet resolved.
He is a man in love, it must be,
because the truth about him, her and all three, impossible to see.

So he strays away to the rock fence where he stands,
with a detached soul; pockets filled with lost hands.
The sun rises, breaking the fog, as an engine roars in the distance and disappears,
and in a quiet manner, he turns to go home this time, for sure as it appears.
