“How long will you keep me?" I asked.
You shrugged. "Forever, of course.”

The Old Dark Smokey Saloon
Sipping slowly on a whiskey sour taking a long draw on a Virginia Slim, curiosity peeks,
Loud voices turn heads, for a moment, silence takes a pause and eyes skim and seek.
She notices him amongst many in the back room,
Of the old dark Smokey Saloon.
6’4’’ at least, broad shoulders ripping through a cotton T,
Masculinity oozes as sap like that from a vibrant maple tree.
An argument erupts with whet bursts of passion quickly eroding into thin air,
Couples dance a slow song on the jute, grinding to an intoxicated flair.
Captivated and intently drawn, she imagines touch, sweat and emergence into instance,
For a second, he notices her, eyes meet forever, unconscious messages and future becomes existence.
Slides off the bar stool, long muscular legs, pays the tab and casually walks to the back room.
Adrenalin surging in waves, not a word or sound, penetrates the fever connecting these two.
Eyes meet squarely; her head tilts slightly to a silky “Hello”…and continues a slow stroll towards the back door
He lays down the pool stick and follows in pursuit, to intensity they both wore,
Just seconds before!

The music featured tonight and to accompany my poem titled "Old Dark Smokey Saloon" is Sade's brilliant music video titled "Sade - Nothing Can Come Between Us"(2). Published on YouTube, Dec 11, 2009 by SadeVEVO.
I am adding the lyrics for your reading pleasure.
"Nothing Can Come Between Us" (3)
I always hope that you remember
We'll never really learn the meaning of it all
What we have is strong and tender
So hold on
In the middle of the madness
When the time is running out and you're left alone
All I want is you to know that
It's strong still
Can't pull us apart
Nothing can come
Between us
Nothing can pull us apart
Can come
Between us
I always hope that you remember
What we have is strong and tender
In the middle of the madness
Hold on
So it truly is a good thing
And I always wanted you to know
There is always this
And this is everlasting
Hold on
It's about faith
It's about trust, yeah yeah
It's about faith
It's about trust
Nothing can come
Nothing can come
Nothing can come between us
Nothing can come
Nothing can come
Nothing can come between us
Can come
Can tear
Can pull
Us apart
Can come
Can tear
Can pull
Us apart
You shrugged. "Forever, of course.”
