The Butler (1) |
Yesterday I was treated
to the movie “The Butler” which is a 2013 American historical
drama based on the life journey of Cecil Gaines. The move was quite impressive
and showed detailed life snippets of Cecil’s high and low points starting from
childhood. He eventually went on to serve as a butler under eight presidents,
in the White House, during tremulous times like the civil rights movement,
Vietnam War, and Water Gate. The movie brings in all this history and how it
affected the main character in the required quiet butler role he endured over a
life time. It’s a long film running over two hours so make sure you have enough
popcorn and soda. Two weeks since its release and I had to go to three theaters
to finally get a seat but definitely worth all the running around.
The film is directed by Lee
Daniels, written by Danny Strong, and featuring an
amazing ensemble cast which I am only going to feature a couple. You can always
look them up on the web:
Oprah Winfrey - (Gloria Gaines) played an amazing sexy
misunderstood drunk mother and wife. I believed and loved her
performance.
Forest Whitaker - (Cecil Gaines) delivered a compelling
performance of which transfixed me back “into and through time”. He
allowed me to speculate on what it was like to be in Cecil Gaines shoes; just a
good solid performance that was emotionally engaging. It’s like he gave his
heart and soul on this one.
Michael Rainey Jr. - Cecil Gaines reminded me of my own
twenty year old children so hello he was good!
Cuba Gooding Jr.- Carter Wilson always delivers emotion and
believably….just loved him.
If you have a chance to
see this movie, check it out! I promise you will not be disappointed.
Peace Diana
