"For Sale"

It’s an old wooden house, set on pier and beam,
blue paint faded, curled and turning green,
and it sets apart from the world’s balance it seems.
Abandoned years before, invaded by weeds,
and on the front lawn there is that huge maple tree.
“For Sale” sets out on the long winding drive,
seeking a new prospect that’ll reside inside.
The question’s practicality and possibly why,
with such disrepair, should one even try?
Are its old bones of significance; to the remodeler’s delight?
Is the value in well-made structures that'll allow it to survive?
And there’s that back porch facing an ocean view,
hand carved banisters, craftsmanship nonexistent in new.
It’s an investment in time, to be accurate,
that’s why sits empty awaiting it's perfect occupant.
