"Discovering Love" #POETRY #DISCOVERING #LOVE w/Roberta Flack-The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face #MusicVideo #DianaMarySharpton

: Introduction

Not until I felt your sunshine,
Did I realize that I had been in the shade?
Not until I saw all your colors,
Did I realize that mine had faded?
Not until I heard your dreams,
Did I realize that I was still sleeping?
And not until I experienced my life with you,
Did I realize that I was barely?

The song I am picking for this evening is titled "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" (2) sung by Roberta Flack. I felt it was a perfect fit for my poem titled "Discovering Love" included below. The video was published Jul 2, 2010, on YouTube by fritz51355. This song became an international hit winning Roberta Flack a Grammy Award for song of the year in 1972.

"The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is the 6th track on Roberta Flack's debut studio album titled "First Take" which was released on June 20, 1969. The genre is vocal jazz, soul and R&B.

A little about my poem: It was written and published back in November of 2013. It reflects on the overwhelming energy and emotion I was experiencing realizing I had finally discovered real love, in me. As I look back at that moment, the minutes, the hours, the days and the surrounding personalities, all are still vivid and raw. It was the moment I first met you. You immediately perplexed me. Me, always in control suddenly being totally out of control. I couldn't sleep, it was an ache... I wanted you like none other... as much as I do today because you are that man in all those dreams. True Sto

Discovering Love

It’s a secret this energy from you, I feel,
maybe it’s in the rash desire, that it be real.
I can fall so deeply within your soul,
you’re the man I seriously want to know.

Nothing that’s been utter openly, it just me,
it’s the smell that oozes from your masculinity.
Nervous yet thrilled, all at once, when you’re near,
breath held; as a heart races in tangential fear.

I have waited a lifetime it seems,
recognizing you from the onset specified in my dreams.
You and I are kin as lovers of earth, wind and light,
terse moments I could inconceivably try to fight.

Yet there’s something intuitive which I can't mask,
a nature that’s rebellious, accretive and fear lacks.
It’s private but from my perspective it’s all true,
I know at this moment, I am deeply in love with you.

I have listed the lyrics below for your reading pleasure.

"The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" (3)
The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the endless skies, my love
To the dark and the endless skies

And the first time ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth move in my hand
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command, my love
That was there at my command, my love

And the first time ever I lay with you
I felt your heart so close to mine
And I knew our joy would fill the earth
And last 'til the end of time, my love
And it would last 'til the end of time, my love

The first time ever I saw your face
Your face
Your face
Your face
